Put your link in the first comment

Facebook, Instagram and YouTube: publish a post and its first comments together, automatically — which networks take one, and the permission that trips it up.

Putting the link in a first comment instead of the caption.

A lot of Pages put their link in the first comment instead of the post. The usual reason is reach: many social managers find that posts with a link in the text travel less far, because the network would rather keep people on it. Meta doesn't publish how it ranks links, so treat that as a widely held observation rather than a rule, and test it on your own Page.

Doing it by hand means publishing the post, then commenting on it as the Page straight away. It works, but only if you are there the moment the post goes live.

PostDaily does that for you. You write the comment when you write the post, and it publishes the instant the post goes live — from the same Page, with no reminder to set and nothing to do on your phone.

Put your link here, with any context you want alongside it. Facebook allows up to 8,000 characters, so there's plenty of room.

That's all there is to it. Schedule or queue the post as normal — when it publishes, the comment follows immediately.

More than one comment

Click Add comment again to add up to 5. They publish in order, each as its own comment on the post.

Which networks take a first comment

  • Facebook — feed posts only, not Reels or Stories.
  • Instagram — posts, carousels and Reels, not Stories.
  • YouTube — videos and Shorts, except private videos, which YouTube doesn't let anyone comment on.
  • Threads, X, Bluesky and Mastodon — use Add to thread instead: the follow-up publishes as a reply to your post, which is how those networks do it.
  • TikTok and Pinterest — no. PostDaily doesn't post comments on either.

If the comment doesn't appear

  • Mentions don't work in comments. Facebook only resolves @ mentions in the post caption itself.
  • Stories can't take comments. If the post format is Story, the first-comment block doesn't apply.
